Stange, Elsie Ann, of Rancho Palos Verdes, California, died December 26, 2015. She was born January 19, 1929 in Milbank, South Dakota, to Carl Isaac and Elsie Mae Mundy. Elsie is survived by her husband of 64 years, (Colonel USAF retired) Vern Stange, sons Mark, John, James, daughters Annette Stanley, Carolyn Maffia, and 11 grandchildren. Elsie graduated High School in Stratford, SD and attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD; then taught Country School. In 1951 she graduated as a Registered Nurse from Northwestern Hospital Nursing School in Minneapolis. She provided wonderful support for her family during her husband's overseas deployments. She skillfully participated in diplomatic functions and hosted dignitaries from the nation and around the world while her husband was posted as Attaché to the American Embassy, Republic of South Africa, and Kingdoms of Lesotho and Swazilad from 1974 to 1977. Elsie was an accomplished pianist, loved gardening, drawing and painting. She enjoyed church services as a member of Ascension Lutheran Church (Rancho Palos Verdes). She used her nursing skills for friends and family in need. She taught her children by example. She is remembered by all who knew her for her intelligence, warmth, and kindness. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Green Hills Memorial Chapel. No flowers please. Charitable contribution to your favorite charity would be appreciated.
