Elsie Rose Cottone

September 21, 1927 — December 22, 2020

Elise Rose Cottone passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2020, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born on September 21, 1927, at her family home on 11th Street in San Pedro, the third of three daughters. Elsie married Leo Peter Cottone, a fisherman, on December 3, 1949, and they lived 49 happy years together until he passed away on October 5, 1998. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Carlo and Eliza Donatoni, and her sisters Mary and Margaret Donatoni. She is survived by her children, Joseph Leo Cottone and Carol Ann Cottone Kolthoff, her beloved granddaughter Katherine Elizabeth, and her son-in-law David Lee Kolthoff.
Elsie was generous, kind-hearted, and loved to be with people. She especially loved children, and her house was a favorite place for friends and neighbors to congregate. Elsie graduated from San Pedro High School June 20, 1946. After high school, she worked at the Strand Theater, and also sold war bonds. She trained as a beauty operator, and continued working at home while raising their children. Elsie and Leo moved into the back house on the family property, and never left. Elsie, Mary and Margaret remained close throughout their lives. Elise was the last member of the first-generation families who lived on 11th Street since the 1920's – it was a very special block. She was an amazing cook, and loved to bake.
Elsie was baptized at Mary Star of the Sea, where she and her sisters were parishioners all of their lives. In her final years, she divided her time between San Pedro and Las Vegas, with Joseph, who looked after her.
A visitation for Elsie will be on January 7, 2021, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, at Palm South Jones Mortuary, 1600 South Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV. A requiem mass will be held on January 8, 2021, at 10:00 am, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 1575 E. Windmill Lane, Las Vegas. A rosary will be held at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, just prior to Mass. Elsie will be interred at Green Hills Cemetery in San Pedro, on Thursday, January 14th at 12:30 PM. Masks and social distancing required. In lieu of flowers, Mom would appreciate if you had masses said for her. A memorial of Elsie’s life will be scheduled after Covid is over.
