Elizabeth Mae Ball

September 14, 1935 — August 31, 2014

Elizabeth Mae Ball passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31st, 2014, at Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center, with her family by her side. She had been struggling with metastatic cancer. Born in Idabel, Oklahoma in 1935 to William (Perry) and Gordie Andrews, "Bessie Mae" soon moved with her parents and six siblings to Orange Cove in California's San Joaquin Valley during the Dustbowl Migration. After graduating from Reedley High School, Elizabeth attended Reedley College, then worked briefly as a kindergarten teacher in Firebaugh, CA before becoming a stewardess for United Airlines. She was based in San Francisco, Chicago, and finally Los Angeles, where she met Charles Ball, her husband and the father of her children: Mike, Kevin, and Kimberly. The family settled in Palos Verdes, where Elizabeth lived until her death. While raising her children, Elizabeth earned a bachelor's degree from Long Beach State and an insurance broker's license. She worked in the insurance industry for most of her life, but returned to education in recent years as a classroom aid at Ridgecrest Intermediate School. In addition to many devoted friends, Elizabeth leaves behind her dear sister Evelyn; her loving brother-in-law Ted; her children and children-in-law, Mike, Cheryl, Kevin, Gina, Kimberly, and Scott; her grandchildren, Loryn, Lily, and Annie; and her great grandchildren, Taylor and Dilyn. Elizabeth was an exceptionally beautiful, loving, and gentle person whose spirit continues to illuminate the lives of those who knew her. She is deeply missed. Services will be held Saturday, September 13th, at 11:00 AM, at her church: St. Peter's by the Sea in Rancho Palos Verdes. A reception at the church follows, and then a committal service at Green Hills Memorial Park at 2:30.
