Elena M. Buker

Buker, Elena M., age 87, of Torrance, California passed away in her sleep Saturday, January 28, 2017. She was a graduate of Hamilton High School in Los Angeles and attended Santa Monica Business College. She was an Executive Secretary for 40 years before retiring. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach. She was First Lady of the Dosie Doe Square Dance Club, member of Miller Round Dance Club and also Assistant to the Director of the Veterans Parks Bridge Club in Redondo Beach. She traveled all over the world and sailed many seas, square dancing all the way. She was an accomplished seamstress and even made all her square dance dresses. She was the life of the party and knew no strangers. She was a wonderful and loving person…the best there was. Our family held her on a pedestal because that's where she belonged and how great and special she was. She is preceded in death by her father and mother Juan and Mildred Vargas, sister Claire Vargas, brother Juan Vargas and son Edward Buker. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Frank "Ed" Buker, daughter Nancy Collins (Tommy) OK, Peggy Rivas (John) TX and David Buker CA, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren, nephews Louis and Johnny Vargas and many other loving relatives. Funeral arrangements are through Green Hills Mortuary 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes. A Mass will be held at 10:00 AM at St James Catholic Church, Monday, February 6th, 415 Vincent St, Redondo Beach with Msgr. Michael Meyers officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
