In the year 2023, Eleanor Knox passed away at home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her children, Stacey and David, son in law Mark, and pup Karlie. Eleanor was predeceased in death by her husband, Bill, who passed away in 2011 after 55 years of marriage.
She was born in Everett, Massachusetts in 1934, to Ralph and Florence Nosworthy.
Eleanor always knew that she wanted to be a Registered Nurse and graduated from the Peter Bent Brigham School of Nursing in Boston in 1954. She worked in the OR and on hospital floors in Boston, Michigan, and Ohio, and performed many diversified roles at Redondo Beach Medical Group/Bay Shores Medical Group/Heath Care Partners. She was a Nurse Manager for many years, and her final role was as a Diabetes Educator until she was well into her 80s. She also volunteered in the Day Surgery Department at Torrance Memorial Medical Center until illness forced her to stop. Eleanor was well respected by all her colleagues; many of whom became lifelong friends. She was known for her trademark energy, optimism, and incredible work ethic to meet every new challenge. She was recognized as a team player in all her roles.
Eleanor married the love of her life; William D Knox on June 16, 1956. As a career military spouse, she accepted each assignment with grace, and made her family a home wherever the Air Force took them. When Bill was assigned to SAMSO (Space and Missile Systems Organization) in El Segundo in 1973, the family made their final move to Southern California and Bill and Eleanor lived the rest of their lives in Rancho Palos Verdes.
Eleanor had an enduring passion for dogs and could always be seen walking them through the neighborhood. She was generous to her many animal charities and helped any neighbor in need. She loved to dance, laugh, read, and entertain her many friends.
Eleanor endured a chronic illness in her last years which she fought with fortitude and grace. While she married a jet pilot and Korean War veteran, she proved herself to be a courageous veteran of her own personal war.
A Memorial will be held graveside at Green Hills Memorial Park on August 12, 2023, at 12:00 with a reception to follow in Palos Verdes.
