Elaine Hatsumi Yokoyama

November 15, 1948 — July 27, 2015

Elaine Hatsumi Yokoyama passed away Saturday June 27th, 2015, surrounded by family and friends at Torrance Memorial Hospital. She fought hard until she eventually lost the battle to cancer at age 66. Elaine was an amazing woman who became your friend instantly. She was a teacher for Torrance Unified School District for 33 years. Over the course of her teaching career she had touched so many lives. Many students remember her as their favorite teacher. One of the things she enjoyed most was watching her kids and grandkids play sports. It wasn't unusual for Elaine to watch five grandchildren, play three different sports, and travel between ten games in a weekend. Elaine was such a strong, generous, and caring person to all those around her. She will be remembered and cherished by anyone who was lucky enough to meet her. She is survived by her husband, Mickey, daughters, Jenny Laurens (Chris), Wendy Turner (Ollie), mother Peggie Wada, brother Jack Wada Jr., grandchildren, Owen, Allison, Kennedy, Samantha, and Gibson, and many cousins, nephews and nieces. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 7th from 5pm - 8pm at Green Hills Memorial Chapel. There will be a Memorial service on July 8th at 10am outside on the hilltop at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 S. Western, RPV. A burial service will follow immediately.
