Eiichi Kamiya was born in Long Beach on April 6, 1936. He was interned in Roher, Arkansas during WWII with his parents and siblings, Lily Sugino, Yo Yoshimura, and Eiko Moriyama. After the war, the family returned to the Los Angeles area. He graduated from Gardena High School and later got his BS and MS from UCLA in engineering. He worked at Northrop, PRC, Aerospace and Rand Corporation.
Eiichi married Donna Clayton in 1965 and they had two children, Erik and Malynn. He enjoyed attending events for his children, grandchildren, and extended family. He also enjoyed traveling, singing, reading, doing crosswords, learning, and writing poetry and stories. He served the community by volunteering for PV Friends of the Library, PEF, and Reserve Sherrifs.
Eiichi lived a long and happy life. He died peacefully in his sleep on March 1, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, children, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
Services will be at Green Hills on Mar. 13 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Omnilore or Peninsula Friends of the Library in his name.
