Carolyn Petersen ended her earthly journey on July 26, 2011 in San Marcos, Ca. She was born in Omaha, NE on March 13, 1923 to Albert F. and Edith Miller Schueler. In 1941, she graduated from North High School in Omaha. Carolyn married her high-school sweetheart, Charles "Chic" Petersen on June 10, 1944. After leaving the Navy in 1956, they moved their family to Torrance. Chic preceded her in death in 1986. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Sanders; son-in-law Joseph "Sandy" Sanders; son Charles "Chuck" Petersen Jr; daughter-in-law Deborah; granddaughter Denise Harris; grandson-in-law Chris Harris and great-grandchildren Clayton and Abigail. In 1980 she was happy to accept Carl Sanders, Karen Schwartz, Shari Cline, Brigetta Queener, Dan Sanders and Jeanette Sanders as her grandchildren, and their spouses, as well as 8 boys and 7 girls as great-grandchildren! Her heart includes love for her nieces, nephews, and extended family in Washington, Colorado, Texas, California, Ohio, Illinois and Oklahoma.
Carolyn was a shining light to all her knew her. Carolyn enjoyed leading Girl Scouts, received the Honorary Life Award for PTA from Flavian Elementary, and worked as school secretary at Adams and Hillcrest Middle Schools in Redondo Beach. She was actively involved in the beginnings of West High School, and the Petersens were charter members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Torrance She worked as an Administrative Assistant at UCLA before retiring in 1981. She was a Past Bethel Guardian of Bethel 50 in Torrance, and a Deputy Grand Guardian of the Int'l Order of Job's Daughters. She also served Torrance Chapter Order of the Eastern Star as Worthy Matron in 1992 and 1997. Carolyn was a loving mother, devoted grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed.

Viewing is on Monday, August 1st, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Green Hills Mortuary. Services will be held at Green Hills Chapel on Tuesday, August 2nd, at 11:00 a.m.
