Eddie Mae Sanders , fondly known as Mae, was born to loving parents Laura and Walter Sanders on November 12, 1926 in Greenville, MS. There she found a love of music playing bass drum in the high school band. Mae graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in 1946. Later that year she moved to Oakland, CA and married Bruce J. Bullock, Petty Officer 1st Class. The wife of a Navy officer took Mae on a cross country adventure. From Oakland, CA to Corpus Christi, TX, and back to Long Beach, CA finally settling in San Pedro in 1961. Through these journeys five children would grow up in the Bullock household.
Mae was the foundation that held her family together. As mother of five children, grandmother of seven and great grandmother of three (with two currently on the way), Mae's life was spent caring for all. The doors of 981 W. Oliver St. have been known in San Pedro as a home to anyone who needed a place to stay. Her nurturing extended beyond the home, as a thirty year employee of the Federation of Preschool Head Start Program, Mae's dedication to the service of families and the young was paramount to none.
When Mae met John Coleman, Jr. in the late 1960's, he would be the love of her life and partner to his death in 1984. In her passing, Mae also joins her parents, and son Bruce "Boo Boo" Bullock.
