Dorothy Wurzer

May 9, 1938 — May 29, 2019

Dorothy was born in Los Angeles, California on May 9, 1938. She passed away on May 29, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was raised for the most part in Los Angeles, but spent several months a year on the family farm in Tioga, North Dakota where they would farm their land for harvest. She attended schools in both Los Angeles and Tioga and graduated from Washington High School in Los Angeles.

Dorothy was married at age 17 and moved with her husband to Torrance, California, then became a mother at age 18. She was a stay-at-home mother to her four children and devoted her life to being a beloved wife, mother and later a grandmother. As her family matured, she worked part time at Teleflora. She also worked for several years at Best Western, Redondo Beach Inn. Dorothy enjoyed golfing and belonged to the Par 3 Women’s Golf League at Alondra Golf Course for over twenty-five years.

Dorothy lived for her family, gave endlessly and selflessly and will be missed for her devoted love, friendship and strength. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Wurzer in 2009 and her daughter, Dawn Salisbury in 2011. Dorothy is survived by her son, Dean Wurzer (Kathy), her daughter, Dixie Cooper (Steve), and her daughter, Darla Leeman (Paul). She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Melanie Salisbury, Ben Salisbury, Katherine Wurzer, Daniel Wurzer, Jessica LaBray, Brittany Cooper and Dallas Cooper, and her one great-granddaughter, Hailey Stoica. Dorothy is also survived by her sister, Beverly Damron and her brother Roger Rye (Patsie).

Words cannot describe the loss we feel for this beautiful woman who guided us throughout our lives. Though her body weakened, her spirit and memory endures in all of us.

Friends are encouraged to attend the funeral services held Friday, June 7th at 11:30 at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes.
