Dorothy Matich

Truly a life to celebrate, beloved lifelong Harbor resident and San Pedro advocate, Dorothy Matich, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on August 18 after 88 fabulous years.

Dorothy had a full, wonderful life that included a loving family, decades of travel & cruises, dozens of great friends and many years of involvement in fun community projects. She generously donated her time & resources to countless efforts for the betterment of local schools, scholarships & organizations, which have included White Point Elementary School, San Pedro Park, Bloch Field, Fort MacArthur Museum/Canine Command Cemetery/Gaffey - Hey Rookie Pool, Clean San Pedro, CBYC Youth Sailing and many many more. She was a member of the San Pedro Elks Lodge, The Wednesday Club, Point Fermin Lighthouse Society, Ladies of the Lawn & many more. In 2022, The Beacon House honored her as their Angel of the Year because of her strong longtime support. Now she is our Angel.

Born in Los Angeles on February 8th, 1936, Dorothy grew up in Long Beach, graduating from Poli High in 1954. She was employed as Executive Secretary at StarKist Foods, where she met her husband Matt. They were married 53 years and had two sons.

She is preceeded in death by her parents Oscar & Agnes Lund, brother Alan Lund, husband Matt and grandson Matty.

Dorothy is survived by her sons Matt (Claudia) and Mike (Paula), sister-in-law Dolores Matich, cousin Yvonne Bogdanovich & family who knew her as "Auntie Dorothy", cousin Sonia Robledo, her besties Flo Kleinjan, Rose Marie Wintjen, and dozens of great friends.
