Our beloved grandmother and mother, Dorothy Rose Black of Torrance, CA passed away on October 30, 2015 of natural causes. She was 99 years old. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Black, and her daughter, Janice Young. She is survived by her son, James Black, granddaughters Heather Walls and Teryn Howell, son-in-law Terry Young, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was born on August 5, 1916 in North Dakota. As a young girl, her family settled in the Los Angeles area after spending a short time in Portland, OR. During those travels her little brother, Lawrence Budd, sadly passed away at just 4 years old. She never forgot her little brother and always reminisced about their short time together. As a young lady, she was actively involved in her Sunday school group where she met many lifelong friends that she always kept in touch with. This is also where she met her husband, Dwight. They married in 1942 in Los Angeles, and a few years later, had their children, James and Janice. They were just 9 months away from celebrating 60 years of marriage when Dwight passed away in 2002. Dorothy was very active with her VFW Drill Team, as well as many other groups and organizations. Family was the most important thing to her, and she was an impeccable record-keeper. We will miss her terribly, but will always remember her big bright smile and sweet personality.
Services will be held at 11:00am on Sunday November 8, 2015 at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 S Western Ave in Palos Verdes.
