Dolores Ann Ferraro
March 24, 1934 — May 15, 2015
Dolores Ferraro passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on May 15, 2015 at her home in Torrance, CA, after a short battle with cancer. She was born on March 24, 1934 in the Bronx, NY to Crescenzo and Anna Avallone Guida.
Dolores grew up in New York City and Glendale, CA. When she was a teenager, the family moved to California, where she graduated from Glendale High School and later attended UCLA, where she received a BA degree in Home Economics. After graduation, Dolores married Edward J. Ferraro and worked at the So Cal Gas Company to put her husband thru school so he could further his education and become the City Manager of Torrance in the 1960s to 1980s. After raising her two sons into their teenage years, she re-entered the workforce, where she held a variety of positions in retail, administration, and human resources, and received her Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR®) certification. Dolores spent a majority of her professional work career, until her retirement, working for Hi Shear Technology Corporation.
Not one to be idle after retirement, Dolores enjoyed an active and vibrant life, which included many friends and a variety of activities such as holiday cooking, entertaining, and participating in her walking group. In addition, she was an artisan and created numerous and highly coveted woven baskets.
Dolores is survived by her sons - Vince (Wee-Nah) Ferraro, of Rancho Santa Fe, CA and Mike Ferraro of Edinburg, VA; her sister Diana Brown of Leonia, NJ; her brother Edward Guida of Boonton, NJ; her grandson Jonathan, and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A columbarium-side interment ceremony will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park at 2:00pm on Monday, June 15, 2015 located at 27501 Western Ave, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. Phone: (310) 831-0311. Their website can be found at http://new.greenhillsmemorial.com/ .
