Diris June Kasko was granted her angel wings on September 12, 2013 in Torrance, California. June, the daughter of Jiles and Wilma "Billie" Rambo was born on June 20, 1936 in Blytheville, Arkansas. She moved to Torrance at the age of 6 where she resided for most of her life.
June graduated from Torrance High School in 1953. She went on to attend El Camino College and Long Beach State University where she received her Master's Degree in education. She taught for the Torrance Unified School District for almost 30 years. June married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Joseph "Joe" Kasko, in 1956 at the First United Methodist Church of Torrance. They had a loving and blessed marriage of 43 years until his death in 1999.
She enjoyed traveling, shopping, spending time with her friends, and being involved in her church, Torrance First Baptist. But her greatest love was spending time with her family. Those who were lucky to know "Honey June", as her grandchildren called her, could attest to her kind-heartedness, loyalty, patience, and most of all strength. A common memory among people who knew her was the smile she could bring to anyone's face. There wasn't a person who didn't adore our Honey.
June is survived by her children, Cindy and husband, James Sallee and Larry and Connie Kasko; her grandchildren, Chad and wife, Sallie Phillips, Katie Phillips Sallee, and Kayla Sallee; her sister-in-law, Arline "Cookie" Rambo; three nieces, three great-nieces, three great-nephews; other relatives and close friends, including long life friends, Anita Johnson and Sharon Quigley. She was preceded in death by husband, Joe; parents, Billie and Jiles; and brother, Jack.
We will always remember her intelligence, always caring heart, and grace. June will always be an inspiration to her family and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 17th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Villetta Room at Green Hills Mortuary in Rancho Palos Verdes. The Memorial Service will be the following day, Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Green Hills Memorial Chapel. A gathering will immediately follow at Torrance First Baptist Church.
