Dolores Irene Skidmore was born May 22, 1922 in Portsmouth, Ohio. She passed away November 4, 2015, holding the hand of the man she's loved for 74 years, surrounded by five grandchildren and one beloved son. Dolores and her husband Joseph Baldwin Kennedy II married in December 1941, just before he shipped out to serve in WWII. Upon his return, they had two children, Martha and Joseph, and settled in sunny California. Dolores was so many things: doting great-grandmother, supportive grandmother, adoring mother, and loving wife. But she was also a determined, self-possessed woman in her own right. After raising her children, Dolores, a steadfast proponent of higher education, resolved to get her degree. She graduated from Cal State Dominguez Hills at the age of 71 and held onto that tenacious thirst for knowledge all her life. She also regularly attended St. Luke's Presbyterian Church. We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Dolores during her 93 years. Among them: Label everything (including your toothbrush!) Eat cookies passionately and with great abandon. Laugh and sing often, with your whole body. Read everything you can get your hands on (twice.) Drive as slow as you damn well please. Kiss the Blarney stone, hug those you love as much as you can, and eat lots of fish along the way. Dolores was quirky, stubborn, strong, hilarious and, above all, loving. She was the force that bound us all together, and she made us feel her love every day. We are so grateful for the time we had with her, even though no amount of time would ever have been enough. We are who we are because you showed us how. We miss you every day, Grandma, and we love you, fiercely, always. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Arthritis Foundation . Alternatively, you can write your Congressman asking for the long-overdue repeal of Daylight Savings Time. Dolores really really hated Daylight Savings Time. Services for Dolores will be held at the Green Hills Chapel on Monday, November 16th at 11 AM.
