Delmer "Del" William Beisell
October 13, 1924 — February 23, 2013
Delmer William Beisell passed away February 23, 2013 at the age of 88 after a brief illness.
He was born and raised in Santa Barbara. The son of Hazel and William Beisell. He graduated from Santa Barbara High School and UCSB with a degree in education, later getting his Masters in Education from USC.
Growing up during the depression he helped support his family by delivering papers, for which he was granted a provisional drivers license at the early age of 14. This was the beginning of his "love affair" with driving. It was during this time he also developed his habit of "saving" everything.
He met and married Janet Sheela his senior year in college. They moved to Los Angeles, where he began his career in education for LAUSD. He was a drafting teacher, a counselor, and an adult school Principal. He retired in 1991. During the summers, Del would supplement their income doing construction work and in the early 60's designed and built his own home in Rancho Palos Verdes, with lots of help from family and friends.
Janet and Del have two "perfect" daughters, Sheela Buckley, born in 1954 and Nancy Tuflija, born in 1956.
In their retirement, Janet and Del enjoyed spending time with their "perfect" grandchildren, John-Joseph, Shawn-Paul, Jessica, and Zack and did some traveling. They especially enjoyed cruises with their good friends.
During the last few years, Del had begun to slow down and spent most of his time close to home. Del is survived by his wife of 65 years, Janet Beisell, his daughters Sheela Buckley (John), and Nancy Tuflija, and four grandchildren, John-Joseph Buckley (Caitlin), Zack Buckley, Shawn-Paul Tuflija (Sarah), and Jessica Tuflija.
A memorial will be held on 3/1/13 at 2:00 pm at their home in Rancho Palos Verdes.
