Debra "Debbie" Lynn Dedmon

August 20, 1953 — January 10, 2017

Debra (Debbie) Lynn Dedmon passed away peacefully on January 10, 2017 at her home in Torrance, California after a long and valiant battle with ovarian cancer. She was preceded in death by both parents: Ernest and Elsie Dedmon. Debra was born on August 20, 1953 in Grand Junction, Colorado and grew up in Torrance, California.

Debbie spent over 40 years at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro as an ICU nurse and night supervisor before being diagnosed with cancer. She loved her work and was committed to helping others. Debbie never ceased to be the nurse. While receiving treatment in the hospital, she would help student nurses perform their procedures. She provided them with invaluable support and always remembered to thank each of them for taking care of her. Always the mentor.

She cherished her friends and was gifted at maintaining these friendships throughout the years. Friends with whom she had worked (some for over 30 years or more) spent many hours visiting with her during her struggle. Her family will be forever grateful for these wonderful ladies.

She also loved to travel and some of her most memorable trips were to China, Morocco, Canada, and Greece, among other countries. New York was one of her favorite places and she visited there often. Her greatest love though was being with family.

She loved indulging her nieces and nephews and took special pride in her grand nephews and nieces as well. Whether it was heading to Palm Springs to spend time with sister Karen and her family or down to Texas to be with sister Laura and her family, she was always on the move. Her nieces and nephews valued her love and devotion to them. The arrival of her newest grandniece in August, gave her particular joy and provided her with many hours of happiness.

Debbie's love of life, her positive attitude and amazing inner strength provided her the courage to meet the agonizing demands of living a life with cancer. And in the days leading up to her passing, she was surrounded by the love of those she leaves behind. Sisters included Karen Fliss (Ron), Laura Graham (Greg), and Sharon McFarland (Mike); and brother, Jeff Dedmon (Wilma). Nieces and nephews included Julie Fliss Erickson (Carl), Lisa Prebble (Naoki), Kim Valencia (Raul), Kristen Dedmon, Mark McFarland (Kim), Greg Fliss, Michael Anstead (Amanda), and Corey Dedmon. Great nieces and nephews included Marissa and Jacob Faustino, and Kennedy Rose Prebble, Kaelyn, Kylie, and Alec Valencia, Jackson Fliss, Ryan and Brett Erickson, Sarah, Josh and Kaitlyn McFarland, and Dylan and Becket Anstead.
