David Monje

February 23, 1949 — August 30, 2017

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our Husband, Dad and Grandpa David Monje, who was born and raised in San Pedro to Urbano "Chavalo" and Jennie Monje on February 23, 1949 and peacefully passed in his sleep on August 30, 2017, he was 68 years old. David lived his entire life in San Pedro. He attended Barton Hill Elementary School, Dana Jr. High and graduated from San Pedro High School's winter class of 1968. Soon after he married his one true love Evelyn Ardaiz on September 25, 1971, they were married 46 years. David was a loyal member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union ILWU Local 13 and retired after 43 years on the waterfront as a crane operator. David was preceded in death by his parents, Urbano and Jennie Monje, his brothers, Richard "Dickie" Monje and Ernie (Sylvia) Monje, sister, Patsy Monje, Nephews and Nieces, Ernie Monje Jr., Brien Ardaiz, Jackie Monje, his in-laws, Sam and Cathy Ardaiz and Brother in-law, Sam Ardaiz Jr. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Evelyn Monje, his sons, David Monje II and Ricky Monje I, his grandchildren, David Monje III, Maya Monje, Leo Monje, Reyna Monje and Ricky Monje II. His nieces, Pat Monje, Kathy Campos, Lori (Larry) Garcia, Lynda (Joel) Hilbert, Catherine (Rudy) Alvidrez, his sister in-laws, Marina Monje, Christy Ardaiz and Linda Ardaiz Banda and many more nieces, nephews, cousins and life long friends. A memorial service will be celebrated Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 2pm at Green Hills Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity.
