David Anthony Lomeli passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of January 8th, 2024, at the age of 84.
A San Pedro native, David was born on December 11th, 1939, as the second son of Mike and Minnie Lomeli. He attended San Pedro High School and, at the age of 19, began working as a Longshoreman, joining ILWU Local 13 in 1959.
There, David worked his way up from casual to crane instructor, while also serving on the local's executive board and being a coordinator for the union's alcohol & drug recovery program.
He remained a proud and active member of Local 13 until his retirement at the age of 62.
A kind and gentle soul beloved by all who knew him, David spent his later years enjoying time with family and friends, tending to his garden, and cruising around in his cherished 1947 Chevy Fleetline and 1967 Volkswagen Bus, cofounding the Legends Car Club in 2002.
David was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard and Michael, and grandson Robert. He is survived by his loving wife Leticia, sister Julie Scovel (Greg), children Mark, Davena Ortega
(Cesar), and Tony, and stepchildren Yvonne Margerber (Rob) and Paul Ybarra (Diana). Additionally, he is survived by his grandchildren: Stephen, Anthony, Raquel, Lauren, Ashlyn, Marcus, Ali, Cami, Jacob, Max, Sarah, and Mia, as well as his great-granddaughter Ariel.
