David E.

October 20, 1929 — July 29, 2022

We mourn the passing and celebrate the life of our Family Patriarch, David. He embarked on his final journey on Friday July 29, 2022. David passed gently at home, in the presence of his loved ones and the dedicated caregivers that provided him with compassion and support during the final two-and-a-half years of his life.

Dave was born in Montreal Quebec Canada on October 20, 1929 to Max and Clara, immigrants from Poland and Russia. As a boy, he learned Yiddish, French, Hebrew and English and passed his time reading comic books, playing stickball with his neighborhood friends and listening
to dramas on the radio.

As a teen, Dave assisted his parents and his sister Dina, in their family restaurant as cook, server and busboy. His people skills would help him later in his career in sales. Dave would attend Baron Bing High School and McGill University. During this period he sought employment at a jewelry store and was interviewed by Miriam. She would become his bride in 1952. Four years later, with a small child, they emigrated to the US, settling in Hollywood to join family already in California. Over the next 10 years, two more children arrived as the family moved to Westchester and eventually to Torrance.

Dave began a long and successful career in health and beauty aid sales, working for L.A. Drug and Mercury Distribution over the next 30+ years. His sales territory and account base were vast, covering many independent pharmacy and health product retail outlets stretching north, from Santa Barbara down to Seal Beach.

Dave and Miriam planted roots for their family at Temple Menorah in Redondo Beach, as they were active in religious and fundraising events, including holding positions on the temple board of directors, adult choir, wedding coordinator and both the Sisterhood and Brotherhood social groups. Their children celebrated many significant life cycle events at the synagogue. In recent years, they became founding members of Temple Emet, in Torrance.

Dave’s passion was bowling, a hobby that brought him many accolades and valuable friends. Dave frequented numerous alleys in the South Bay, but spent most of his time at Gable House Bowl. He practiced countless hours, advised and instructed others and participated in many men’s and mixed team leagues. Dave had an extensive collection of awards, trophies and plaques in his office documenting his winning ways. His proudest moment on the lanes was achieving a 299 game during league play at the young age of 66. He would later bowl a perfect 300 the following year, during a practice session.

Dave and Miriam spent their years traveling to Israel, the UK, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico in addition to many states in the four time zones of the U.S.

Dave is survived by his wife of 70 years, Miriam, and their children: Linda (Jack,) Lori (Alan) and Gary. And Dave shared a very special relationship with his late daughter-in-law, Marci. Dave was blessed with four grandchildren: Brooke (David), Lauren (Alex), Jared (Candice) and Carly. And in recent years, the family tree blossomed once again with the arrival of four great-grandchildren:
Carter, Lincoln, Ruby and Parker.

Dave’s caregivers eased him through his final passage and became part of the extended family. A special thank you to Sharon, May, Joyce and Jeanna.

Funeral services will be private.

Donations can be made in Dave’s honor to The American Heart Association.
