Daniel Isamu Yatabe
December 11, 1949 – August 18, 2015
Daniel passed away after complications related to kidney and heart failure. Dan was a loving husband, father and uncle. Born to Ruriko and Youtaka Yatabe, Daniel was an accomplished scholar and athlete at Gardena High and was named to the Los Angeles Football All City First Team in 1968. Dan graduated from Harvard University and then earned a Masters in Health Planning from UCLA. After several years working in public health he returned to the east coast and earned his MBA from The Wharton School where he met his wife of 35 years, Bonnie Henesy Yatabe. Dan blended his keen intellect and strategic insights and worked in health care sector in the financial and actuarial fields. He retired from Blue Shield in 2012.
A longtime resident of El Segundo, Dan adored his three children and relished in all their sports and academic activities. While he was an avid USC football fan, golf was his passion and he played every Sunday up until his passing. His uncanny intellect and dry sense of humor will be terribly missed by his family, many friends and golfing buddies.
He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved sister, JoAnn Yatabe Kuntz. He is survived by his wife Bonnie, daughter Paige Yatabe Emmons (Nick), sons Bryan and Kyle, brother-in-law Tom, niece and nephew Lauren and Greg Kuntz.
A celebration of Dan's life will be held at Green Hills Mortuary in Rancho Palos Verdes at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 27. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Football Program at El Segundo High School, 640 Main Street, El Segundo, Ca 90245 or the American Diabetes Foundation.
