Daniel V Miranda

October 17, 1922 — May 30, 2018

Our patriarch, Daniel V. Miranda, 95 of Wilmington, California, called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, May 30th. Our father was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico on October 17, 1922 to Eugenio and Gregoria Miranda. He moved to Wilmington, California in 1947.

He bravely fought in World War II as a member of the 475th Infantry Regiment Mars Task Force, which later became a part of the current 75th U.S. Ranger Regiment for the U.S. Army, who served our country defending the world against tyranny. The unit became famous for its deep-penetration missions behind enemy lines, often engaging forces superior in number. The Mars Task Force shoulder patch is proudly worn by the Army Ranger Unit and will be adorned on his headstone. He was awarded a Distinguished Unit Badge and Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, China War Memorial Badge and Ribbon, World War 2 Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Man Badge and was offered a Purple Heart but declined it in honor of his fallen comrades who never made it back home to their families.

After he was honorably discharged, he came home to work in the canneries where he was introduced to the “The most beautiful girl in the world”, his future wife and our beloved mother, Carol Martinez. He began his work with the ILWU Local 13 in 1947 and retired after a long career of 52 years, in August of 1999.

He and our mother, were married on October 24, 1950 in Yuma, Arizona and returned to build their loving home in Wilmington, California, where they raised a beautiful family of six children.

He is remembered as an honest, hard working, loving and giving son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend.
He faithfully watched his Los Angeles Dodgers and boxing matches, and loved spending time with his family. He found peace tending to his garden, especially his papaya tree.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Carol of 67 years, who passed earlier this year in January. His parents Eugenio and Gregoria Miranda, his siblings Angie Gutierrez, Stella Castillo, and Arnie Miranda, and two of his children Laura Ann and Eugene Anthony. Our father is survived by his loving family including his children, Margie Miranda DiBernardo, Daniel G.(Cindy) Miranda, David “Randy” (Ida) Miranda, Laura (Mark) Demers, and his grandchildren Danny “Dan Boy” (Ilona) Miranda Jr., Jack Gomez, Alyssa (David) Kooper, Jennifer (John) Clamme, Amanda (Hector) Mendez, Ali (fiancé Kayleigh Raciak) DiBernardo, Mark Demers, Emily Demers, Matthew Miranda, and Cassie Demers and his great-grandchildren, Ayden Mendez, Daniel Miranda III, Emma Kooper, Isabella Miranda, Andrew Kooper, and Logan Mendez.

Donations may be given in Daniel’s name to the Sts. Peter and Paul Parish.
Rosary will be recited Friday, June 29th at Sts. Peter and Paul Church at 11:30 A.M. Funeral Mass will immediately follow at 12:00 P.M.
