Craig Paul Brown ("CB") a long-time Torrance resident and pillar of the community, died unexpectedly from sudden heart failure on February 18, 2015, at the age of 53.
Craig was born in Yonkers, New York, on January 31, 1962. He moved with his family to the South Bay in 1972 and grew up in Palos Verdes. Craig loved the ocean and surfing, making many life-long friends in and around Lunada Bay. Craig attended Palos Verdes High School, graduating in 1980.
Craig spent his entire career as a general contractor, specializing in high-end kitchen and bathroom remodels. He had the opportunity to collaborate with many leading interior designers over the years and many of his projects throughout the beach cities are architectural works of art.
Craig leaves behind the love of his life, Alpa Katakia Brown, who also grew up in Palos Verdes. Craig and Alpa began dating in 1986 and were married on August 17, 1991. Craig and Alpa have two sons, Ryan age 17 and Matthew age 12.
Craig and Alpa were very active in the community, assisting with numerous charitable causes and supporting Torrance schools. Craig was a devoted father and husband who spent countless hours helping his sons with their activities. One of Craig's greatest gifts was his ability to connect with children. CB spoke to kids on their level and he entertained and inspired them. Craig really enjoyed youth baseball and was a fixture at the Torrance American Baseball field in Torrance. He had a passion for gardening; his immense garden at their family home is truly amazing and stands as a testament to Craig's artistic talent.
Craig is survived by his wife Alpa and sons Ryan and Matthew, his parents Bill and Lee, brother Peter, sister Christina and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Please join Craig's family and friends for a memorial service celebrating his life at 11AM on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at the Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Details on a reception following the service will be provided at the memorial.
