Consuelo B Salinas

We are here to celebrate the life of Consuelo “Choling” Balao Salinas and cherish the fond memories we shared with her.

Choling at age 95 passed away in her home in Carson, CA on April 9, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.

Choling was born on October 16, 1928 in Pangasinan, Philippines to Elias Balao and Rosario Llamas. She grew up with two siblings, many cousins and relatives. After completing a Bachelor's degree she married Perfecto Salinas in 1949 who was in the US Navy. Choling and Perfecto started their family with their oldest child Manuel “Manny” and later Gloria and Marlene being born in the Philippines.

In 1955, they were able to immigrate to the US while husband Perfecto continued to serve in the US Navy. Choling and her 3 children traveled first to Honolulu, Hawaii to live, then Norfolk, Virginia, followed by Oakland, CA (where 4th child Ruth was born) and then finally Long Beach, CA, all while staying in US Naval housing. During this entire period of time, Choling had the responsibility of caring for the kids alone while husband Perfecto was deployed on ships in the US Navy. Raising the kids was a priority and she did so with dedication, kindness and patience.

In 1964, when Perfecto was being discharged from the US Navy, they bought their first home in Carson, CA. In Carson, Choling and Perfecto had two more children Annette and Perfecto Jr. With the addition of more kids and being a rambunctious lot, she continued to be sympathetic, loving and generous.

Choling shared wonderful times with family, relatives, and friends often visiting each other, going to dances, enjoying birthday events and many travel vacations. She loved spending time with the Carinos family, Marinas family, Supangan family, Estrada families, Silva family and Roxas family. Manny's wife Laura Validivia and family were very close. Visiting family, friends and relatives brought smiles and joy to her life.

Choling is survived by daughters Marlene and Annette, son, Jr, grand kids Frankie, Jonathan, Sarah and Vincent, and daughter in law Laura and her family.

Choling was preceded in death by husband Perfecto, son Manny, daughters Gloria and Ruth.
