Conchita R Ballon

April 8, 1940 — August 5, 2023

Conchita Lampa Ballon passed suddenly on August 5, 2023 from a hemorrhagic stroke at Chandler Regional Medical Center in Arizona, just six weeks after the death of her son Glenn. She was surrounded with love by her immediate family at the time of her passing.

She is preceded in death by her husband Glicer Ballon, son Glenn Ballon, father Bartolome Ruiz Lampa, mother Esperanza Romua Lampa, sister Rose Lampa, and brothers Leonardo “Juanito” Lampa and Rodulfo “John” Lampa.

Conchita, or Chit as she was affectionately called, was born and raised in Binalonan, Pangasinan, Philippines, on April 8, 1940. She graduated from Binalonan High School in 1957 and attended Luzon Colleges School of Nursing in Dagupan City, Philippines. She was among four nurse graduates selected to participate in an exchange program in 1961. They traveled to St. Anthony Hospital in Chicago, IL in May 1962; after a year she transferred to the University of Chicago Billings Hospital.

It was in Chicago that she met the love of her life, Glicer Ballon, who was stationed there with the U.S. Navy. Together they moved to Alameda, California and were married in 1964. Their twins Gladys and Connie were born in Long Beach in 1966, joined by Glenn in 1968. Over the years they moved between Carson and Cerritos, and finally made Corona their home in 1990 where she resided for the last 33 years.

From starting out at the Dagupan Polyclinic Hospital in 1961 to retiring at Norwalk Community Hospital in 2017, her nursing career spanned 56 rewarding years. During this time, she served in a variety of roles such as Medical/Surgical Nurse, ER Nurse, Administrative Supervisor, Director of Nursing, and Vice President of Nursing.

Conchita remained in contact with her high school classmates throughout her life and was among the pioneers of the Binalonan Association of Southern California (BASC), serving as the third president and first woman president of the association. She was also active with the Philippine Technical & Professional Society. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling with Glicer in many different leagues and especially enjoyed playing slots at the casino.

Conchita is survived by her daughters Gladys and Connie, grandchildren: Ryan, Marissa, Cynthia, Reina, and Noah, and great-granddaughters Arya and Avery. She is also survived by her sister Emy Lampa in California and two brothers, Orlan Lampa in Binalonan and Phil Lampa in Colorado.

Rest in peace our dear mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. God bless your soul. You will forever be in our hearts.
