Col. (Ret) William David Knox
June 25, 1929 — March 29, 2011
Col. (Ret) William David Knox, a 38 year resident of Rancho Palos Verdes passed away
in the early morning hours of March 29, 2011. He was born on June 25, 1929 in Williston, North Dakota. He moved to the Washington DC area in 1935, and received a BS degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Bill entered the Air Force as a second lieutenant and attended flying school in Texas and Arizona. Stationed in both Japan and Korea, he flew combat missions during the Korean War. During his 26 years of military service he received Masters Degrees in Aeronautical Engineering and Guidance Missile Systems, and his last assignment in the Air Force was Director of Launch Vehicles at Los Angeles Air Force Base. Upon retirement from the military, he received a third Masters Degree in Computer Science from USC and worked as a programmer for 10 years. Along with his career achievements, Bill was a warm, loving and devoted husband, father and friend with a wonderful sense of humor. Bill is survived by Eleanor, his wife of 54 years; daughter Stacey (Patterson) and husband Mark of Torrance; son David of Torrance; sister Luellyn (Withrow) of Ogden Utah and several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by family, friends and his colleagues of the Order of the Daedalians � a fraternity of military pilots. A military honor service will be held
at Green Hills Cemetery in Rancho Palos Verdes on May 21st at 11:00 am with a Celebration of his Life to follow at Los Verdes Golf and Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Lung Association. God Speed Bill; we salute as you take to the air one last time.
