Claudine Medina

March 6, 1922 — March 31, 2015

Claudine Medina, 93, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2015, surrounded by family after a short illness. She was born on March 6, 1922 in Azusa, CA, daughter of Antonio and Esquipula Nunez. Claudine lived in various places throughout California. She worked throughout her life in jobs as varied as field hand, cook, laundry worker, tile press operator, and electronics assembly worker. A long-time South Bay resident, she lived in Lomita until she moved in with her daughter, Claudine in Elk Grove, and later with her son James and his husband Rick in Long Beach. Retiring after 11 years at Hughes Aircraft in Lomita, Claudine made up for her years of hard work and revived her adventurous spirit with trips to New England, cruises in the Caribbean, Mexico and Mediterranean, and numerous visits to Hawaii. She enjoyed fishing and camping whenever the opportunity was there. She crocheted endlessly until her hands no longer allowed. She was an avid gardener, and developed her skills as an artist, making porcelain dolls, and numerous paintings and drawings. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Peter, and daughter, Anita. Her survivors include sister, Virginia Gonzales (husband Eufemio Gonzales) of Mountain View, CA, children, Nellie, Jennie, John, Peter, Alfred, Claudine, and James, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 6th at Green Hills Memorial Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes.
