Christine Car

December 25, 1932 — August 12, 2020

Born Christmas Day in 1932 to Steve and Kate Marich in San Pedro, Christine lived a full life not far from where she was born. At 87 years of age and after a long illness, she passed away in her home with her children by her side. She is survived by her daughter Terry (Pat) Gannon and son John (Cinde) Car, three grandchildren Michael (Roxana), Ryan (Chelsea) and Kristina and three great grandchildren, Cooper, Nicholas and Carson.

A graduate of San Pedro High School (W’51), she loved school and all that it offered. She met her future husband and developed life-long friendships with classmates that remain today. She especially enjoyed the friendships of the “Cho-Chos” and the women who made up the “Four Queens”. These friendships brought her great joy and she often reminisced about their escapades.

In 1953, Christine married the love of her life, John Car. They were married for 46 years before John’s passing in 1999. They built a wonderful life together that was based on hard work, adventure and especially love. Together they enjoyed the activities of their children and never missed a school or sporting event for their grandchildren.

Christine was a working mother, who juggled the demands of raising a family when many women did not work outside of the home. She worked over 30 years for Bank of America at the 10th and Pacific Avenue Branch in San Pedro. A mainstay in the merchant vault, Christine loved her job and the people she served. Her co-workers at the bank became close friends who continued to socialize and stay in touch until her death.

Christine was active for many years with the Holy Trinity’s Better Half. She enjoyed attending luncheons and making presentations to the group on interesting topics. Fun and clever, she never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Known as the “Magic Lady” to her nieces, nephews and grandchildren, Christine always made family gatherings fun with her trademark scavenger hunts, Easter Egg hunts and special gifts that had to be earned before they were enjoyed.

A private funeral service was held on August 20, 2020, at Green Hills Cemetery. Christine’s favorite charity was Holy Trinity School in San Pedro. The family asks that donations be made to the school in lieu of sending flowers.

Family and friends of Christine are invited to share their favorite photos, video memories and heart felt messages on her Tribute page on the Green Hills Mortuary Website.
