Chester Lee Stewart Jr.

June 15, 1947 — August 24, 2023

Chet believed the Lord Jesus Christ was his savior and devoted himself to his commandments. His life was richly blessed, and he passed those blessings to so many in his words and deeds.

The first-born son of Vivian and Chet Stewart Sr., he moved from Minnesota to California at a young age. He fell in love with baseball around age 11 and quickly made up for his lack of little league training to eventually letter as a senior at Redondo Union High School. His love for baseball was a lifelong passion, and he and Theresa were able to visit every MLB park – some, twice! His favorite team of course are his beloved San Francisco Giants. When he could no longer play in the old man leagues, he turned to soccer, starting as an AYSO referee and finishing as the Chief Referee for Region 15, Central Torrance.

He attended CSULB and became a State Farm Agent in Wilmington. After many years, he moved his agency to Lomita and retired in August of 2022 after nearly 49 years. He made so many friendships with fellow agents, State Farm staff, policyholders, and members of the community. He achieved Crystal Excellence; the highest acclaim State Farm bestows upon their agents. His Staff is precious to him, and many remained close friends and family through the years.

Chet and baseball soon evolved to include fantasy baseball teams, comradery and the quest for the coveted Bobble-head doll. He was called Jefe, Commish, Grampa, friend, and loved the boy-banter and closeness to his “rivals”. This past draft, he passed the baton to one of his closest friends to keep the league alive. He was proud to attend MLB World Series games for his Giants all three years and share these moments with the family.

There were notably many organizations that Chet supported through the years... Toys for Tots, Kiwanis, Lions Club, and the Harbor City Boys and Girls Club. As a board member at the Boys and Girls Club, he was honored as Board Member of the Year- an honor he proudly displayed in his office until he retired.

Golf was another of Chet’s passions and his golf buddies were his brothers. He started playing back in the high school days and played his final 13/18 holes in May with his friend of 65 years. Traveling to play golf around the world were highlights to share with friends, even better than his two “hole in ones”. While he loved a great round, it was always about his golf buddies and their shared friendship.

Chet leaves his beloved wife of 35 years Theresa, his daughter Kristin (Greg), son Matthew (Hollie), daughter Stacia (Renzo), brother Barry (Lois), sister Linda (John), his bonus daughters Serafina and Blanca (Alvaro), his favorite nieces Kelly (Ben) and Amy (Bobby); his eight grandsons: Devin, Kyle, Nicholas, Joshua, Dillon, Jack, Michael, and Declan, one granddaughter Emma, and his grand-nieces and nephew, Eleanor, Abigail, Celeste, Vivian, Nora and Jacob.

To Chet, life was a journey, not the destination and we who love him will always remember...
