Charles Henry Watson Jr. (68) passed away the evening of September 17, 2018 surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Redondo Beach.
He is survived by his loving mother Bernadine (95), his daughter Jasmine (35), his son Christopher (34), daughter-in-law Lindsey (38), his granddaughters Elicia (5) and Renee (1), and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind the love of his life, his “Angel”, and constant companion, Belia.
Charles attended Mt. Carmel Catholic School for boys and graduated from Inglewood’s Morningside High School in 1968. He excelled at many jobs and always had a gift for music.
In October 1978, he found his calling and career as a Fire Fighter for the city of Torrance and became a valuable asset as a Firefighter Paramedic. In the early 90’s, while working on a patient, his ambulance was involved in an accident that left him seriously injured. He later transferred to the Torrance Fire Prevention Division where he worked as a Fire Inspector/Investigator and Public Information Officer.
Charles retired in May 2006 and became a traveling, gambling man. His love of travel was only surpassed by the love and generosity he had for his family. Few who met him could forget his smile, his sense of humor, his kindness, or his beloved Hawaiian shirts.
In 2015, he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Some doctors gave him only a few months to live. Through treatment and a “fight to the end” attitude, Lucky Chucky lived and enjoyed another 3 years of life.
His final years included seemingly non-stop travel to wonderful and exotic places with his Belia, countless hands of Texas Hold ‘em, and scenic drives through Palos Verdes. He was also able to meet his second granddaughter.
The best of Charles lives on in his grandkids, family, and friends he treasured.
