Charles Ward

Charles Ward, age 86, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2014 in Torrance, California. Charles (Charley) was born January 5, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to Robert and Florence Ward. He served in the US Army at Sugamo Prison in Japan after World War II, and returned home to graduate in engineering from the University of Notre Dame. He moved to Southern California in 1952 and went to work for Douglas Aircraft Company where he worked for 38 years before retiring. Charley has lived in San Pedro for 58 years. He loved to travel the world with Gwen, his wife of 60 years. He coached and was an active leader in Eastview Little League in the 60's and 70's, and he was an avid Notre Dame football fan. Charley is survived by his wife Gwen, brother Albert (Mary Lou), 4 children, Michael (Beth), Patrick, Robert and Susan Lester (Doug), 9 grandchildren, Rosalie Cannone (Michael), Allen, Erin and Leann Lester, Melissa, Andrew, James, Daniel and Ryan Ward, great granddaughter Elodie Cannone and 8 nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be celebrated 10:00 am Saturday, March 22 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in San Pedro, with burial to follow at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes. There will be a visitation at Green Hills Memorial Park, Friday, March 21 between the hours of 4:00 and 7:00 pm.
