Charles S. Hart

December 25, 1935 — March 20, 2024

Charles Sidney Hart of San Pedro passed away peacefully on March 20, 2024, after a valiant battle with cancer.

His life was marked by faith, integrity, justice, and service. Chuck was known as “the Hawk” when he worked as a homicide and robbery detective for the LAPD Harbor Division. Following his retirement, he became a dedicated community leader. Chuck served as President of San Pedro Peninsula Homeowners United for over 15 years and never ceased in his fervent efforts to reduce Port pollution and increase public safety for his community.

He was also master mason of the L.A. Harbor Masonic Lodge, member of the Scottish Rite, and an Al Malaikah Shriner. Chuck enjoyed playing baseball, dancing, singing, fishing, waterskiing, gardening, and most of all, spending time with family.

He was born December 25, 1935, the eldest son of Florence (Woollacott) and Francis E. Hart. He married Sylvia June Stone on July 20, 1957, after a five-month courtship. They enjoyed a happy life and had four children together: Charles S. Hart, Jr. (Gail), Stacy Hart (Thad Mazurczyk), Kelly Willis (Rick), and Amy Hart (Ryan Moore). He was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sylvia; and by his brother Frances “Joe” Hart. He is survived by his brother, Dennis, of Tolland, Connecticut.

His memorial service will be held at the Los Angeles Harbor Masonic Lodge in San Pedro. He will be laid to rest during a private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Shriners Hospitals for Children at LoveShriners.org, or to a charity of your choice.
