Celia Lampshire Elmore, 70 years old, a life-long San Pedro resident, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Danny; two children, Julie and Steve (Angela Alva); three grandchildren, Kristina, Helayna and James; and two step-grandsons, Jonathan and Jason. She is also survived by one sister, Gail Lampshire Ryther (Gary) of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and nieces Lynn Smithmier Knoch, Amy Smithmier, and Jill Lampshire Potts, and nephews, Matt Smithmier and Brian Lampshire; and numerous cousins. She is also survived by her beloved Labrador Retriever, Taffy. In addition, Celia is survived by several of her children's friends who called her "Mom".
She was preceded in death by her parents, W. Curtis and Helen Lampshire, and her brother, Curt.
Celia attended San Pedro High School and graduated from California State University Long Beach with honors, having received her Bachelor of Education degree. She taught Kindergarten in the L.A. Unified School District for over 35 years, which included the first several years at Taper Avenue School in San Pedro, and the remainder of her career was spent at Dolores Street School in Carson.
Celia's life revolved around her family and friends and she cherished the time spent with them. She will be remembered for her passion for teaching and education; for her creative abilities; and for the many children's lives she touched throughout her teaching career.
Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Green Hills Memorial Chapel, 27501 S. Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275.
Reception to follow immediately after the service.
