Cecilia Ann Iacono

Cecilia Ann Iacono, 90 years of age, passed away surrounded by her loving family on June 17, 2024. She was a lifelong resident of San Pedro, born on March 6, 1934, to Vincenzo and Cecilia Iodice, a commercial fisherman and a homemaker, respectively,
In 1955 Cecilia married Michael Iacono and spent the next 54 years together. The biggest joy of her life was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was very active in her children’s lives and involved with Mary Star Elementary School and High School, and Mary Star Church. She served in various positions, including president, with the PTA during all 16 years that one or more of her children attended the school, spending countless hours volunteering her time. She was involved in the St. Anne’s Society, the Italian Catholic Federation Branch #115, the Eucharistic Ministry, and the Bereavement Ministry. For many years Cecilia was a volunteer at San Pedro Peninsula Hospital and was proud that her name, along with those of several friends, is displayed on a plaque in the hospital lobby honoring those who volunteered over 5,000 hours. She served as a playground monitor at Leland Street Elementary School for several years and would light up decades later when one of her “kids” would walk up to say they remembered her.
Cecilia was preceded in death by her husband, Michael. She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Vince) Spurgeon, and sons John (Cindy) Iacono and Vince (Maria) Iacono; her eight cherished grandchildren; her eight treasured great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held at Mary Star of the Sea Church in San Pedro on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Mary Star of the Sea High School. Internment at Green Hills Cemetery will be private.
