Carl Anthony Grosso

June 2, 1927 — December 2, 2014

Carl "Tony" Grosso, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away December 2, 2014 at the age of 87. We are deeply saddened and he will be missed by all who knew Him. Carl was born in Brooklyn, NY in June of 1927 to Carmella and Joseph Grosso. The family relocated to Southern California where Carl attended San Pedro High School. He was a World War II veteran joining the U. S. Navy in 1944. In 1951 he married Rose Di Rocco. They had three children and were married until her passing in 1987. During his 71 years in San Pedro and Rancho Palos Verdes, Carl held a number of professions including fisherman and gas station owner before eventually becoming an ILWU Longshoreman and crane operator. He retired in 1992 from the ILWU after 37 years. Carl was an active member of the San Pedro Elks Lodge and Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Carl was also an avid golfer, playing several times a week while building new friendships along the way.

Carl was very fortunate to meet the second love of his life Frances Toman and they were married in 1990. They were happily married for over 24 years. They enjoyed being together traveling the world, attending parties, going dancing, and having fun spending time with family and friends.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents Carmella and Joseph Grosso, first wife Rose Grosso, and brother John Grosso. Carl is survived by his wife Frances Grosso, children Patricia (Paul) Emory, John (Margie) Grosso, Kathleen (Larry) Grey; step-children Kelly (Maribel) Toman and Shelley (Edd) Mathews; grandchildren Jennifer and Brian Emory, Steven and Samantha Grey, Kameren (Brian) Newberry, Daryl (Morgan) Toman, Matthew and Frances Toman; great-grandchildren Brayden and Brooklyn Newberry.
