George was born to James and Dorothy McConnachie in Long Beach Calif. He spent most of his younger days in San Pedro. At Sixteen Years old he joined the service and during WWII he shipped out as a Merchant Marine. After his service he worked on the Tug Boats and was a member of the IBU. He obtained his USCG license and then joined The Master Mates & Pilots Union Local 18. During the 1957 Tugboat strike he also worked as a Casual Longshoreman in San Francisco for Local 40. When he came back to San Pedro, George worked on tugs, then later became a Port Pilot in the Los Angeles Harbor. After his retirement in 1990, George and Lynn left LA for Northern California where they built their own log cabin home in Trinity County. George spent many years hunting, riding motorcycles, and refurbishing his 1962 Corvette. He was later diagnosed with Dementia, living out his last years at Willow Springs, a wonderful care center in Redding. He was recently preceded in death by his wife Lynn of 50 years and his brother Jack. He is survived by his brother Dale (Diane), his sister Carol Becker (Pete), his children; son George, daughters Crystal Valdez, Penny (Barb), and stepdaughter Lori Ament (Charlie), grandchildren Joy, Lisa, Michael and Samantha and numerous nieces and nephews and great grandchildren.
