Captain John William Hill

John passed away peacefully at home after a long heroic battle with cancer. He was a longtime
resident of Rancho Palos Verdes. John was born in Comanche, OK and raised in Lawton, OK.

After attending college in Lawton, John was accepted into the Naval Aviation Cadet program. He graduated in 1955 and received his wings and commission.
After serving proudly in the Navy, he became a pilot for United Airlines in 1960 and flew for 34 years. He was stationed in New Jersey for a short time; the majority of his career was out of Los Angeles. He retired as a Captain on the 747. He was a member
of Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), and Retired United Pilots Association (RUPA).
John enjoyed playing tennis, sailing, traveling the USA, Canada and Mexico in his RV and river cruising internationally with his wife and friends. Many summers were spent at their lake side home in Minnesota.

He took pleasure in gathering semi-annually with friends who were members of his VF-152 Naval Squadron.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue, and siblings, Joe Hill and Lois Hollingsworth. He
is survived by his wife Jeanne, son John, siblings, Jim (Lynn), Geneva Reid, in-laws Jane (Wayne)
Wetzel, Lori (John) Kent, Patricia White, numerous nieces and nephews including Pam (David), Jennifer (Eric), Danielle (Aaron) and Andrew. He also leaves many good friends who became part of
the family through the years.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015, 11:00am at Green Hills Memorial Chapel,
27501 S. Western Ave., Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. A reception will follow at Ports O' Call
Restaurant, 1200 Nagoya Way, Berth 76, San Pedro, CA 90731.
