Burnal Charles Riggs, Jr., age 89, died at home in Torrance, California, on Wednesday, February 8th.
Born July 19 1922, in Claremore, Oklahoma, he was a long-time resident of Torrance. He graduated from Narbonne High School where he was a star athlete in basketball and track and field. Charles served in the
Army Air Corp until 1946, attaining the rank of Sergeant. On July 27, 1945, he married Javauda, the love of his life.
Charles spent his career working in the field of aerospace, beginning with Douglas Aircraft and retiring as a Project Administrator from Rockwell International.
He remained a passionate sports fan, and loved watching the Lakers and the Dodgers. He was an avid golfer with an 8 handicap, enjoying the game into his 80's.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Javauda; his daughters Sherry Riggs of Buena Park and Susan (Richard) Keavney of Torrance; his cherished granddaughter Megan Keavney of Santa Barbara; and his brother Robert (Jean) Riggs of Springville, CA. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Burnal Charles Riggs Sr. and Mary.
An internment site service will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, February 18th, at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes.
