Bobby Olan Gentry, a 65 year resident of Torrance, CA, went home to be with the Lord on June 30, 2024. Bob was born in Altus, Oklahoma to Lola and Dee Gentry. The family moved to California and settled in Bakersfield, where Bob attended Bakersfield High, Bakersfield College and eventually UC Berkeley.
On a visit back to Altus, Bob met the "Love of his Life", Mary Frances Stroud. After a long-distance relationship, they wed in 1958 at the First United Methodist Church in Redondo Beach. In 1961 they became parents to son, Kevin and later had two daughters, Pamela, who passed away in 2007, and Cheryl.
In the early 60's, Bob's career brought him to Magnavox Research Labs as a Quality Manager where he worked for over 34 years. In the mid 90's, Bob began work at Martek Power and retired after 18 years of service, where upon he enjoyed traveling and spending time with Mary, his wife of 65 years.
Bob loved photography, playing guitar, harmonica, singing, playing fast pitch softball, sailing, cheering on the Dodgers, supporting grandchildren in their endeavors, spending time with good friends and family, serving his churches (First United Methodist and Rolling Hills Covenant through the choir and Sonshine class), and sharing stories. Bob is survived by his wife, Mary; son Kevin; daughter, Cheryl (Troy), their daughters Haley and Katelyn; grandson Michael, great grandchildren Marissa, Ariana and Avery. Memorial will be held Saturday, Aug. 10 at 11a.m. at Rolling Hills Covenant Church (North Campus Chapel), 2221 PV Dr. N., Rolling Hills Estates. Reception following.
