Betty Scalise

August 28, 1934 — December 26, 2021

Betty Scalise, better known as Jean to family and friends, passed away on December 26, 2021. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 28, 1934, to Sam and Pearl Schultz. She moved with her family to California in her teens. At the age of 18, she began working for McDonnell Douglas Corporation, where she worked for the next 55 years. It is there where she met her future husband Bob Scalise. They were married on August 29, 1954 and stayed married until his death in 1998.

Jean gave birth to 5 children between 1955 and 1962. She loved being involved in her son's little league and Pop Warner football, spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids. She loved baseball, especially the Angels and the St. Louis Cardinals. She loved to read a good mystery, something she picked up from her mother. She loved to spend time working on puzzles with her great granddaughter Kierra.

She was also a born tourist. There was not a national park or shrine she could come within a couple hundred miles of without stopping to see. She was not the camping type, but she loved to spend time enjoying the beauty of a place. She also loved to play the slot machines at the casinos, loved to dance and was a strong union supporter, with strong opinions about things.

She was frugal, as many children born during the Great Depression could be, but she was also very generous with her family and with charities.

Jean was preceded in death by her beloved grandson Michael. She is survived by her 5 children, Becky, Judy, Sue, Karen, and Robert, 6 surviving grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great, grandchild.

She is loved by all, and will be forever missed.
