Betty Jean Hagar, daughter of Mary Ann and Oran Wilson, passed peacefully to the Lord at age 85 in her home on October 16, 2013. She was born in Duncan, Oklahoma on July 10, 1928 and grew up in Cushing, Oklahoma. In her early years, she worked at the Van De Kamp Bakery in Torrance and later years at the downtown Torrance Bakery.
After marrying Dale Hagar in Alexandria, La in1945, they settled in Wichita, Kansas until traveling west on Route 66 to Torrance, California in 1958 with their four children. She was an excellent homemaker and writer, often sending words of wisdom to her kids. From roller skating, birthday parties, beach trips, watching ball games and dance competitions to riding her motorcycle on Sunday family rides through Palos Verdes, she was a fun and active woman. Betty was a Dodger fan and an avid Laker fan. She knew each Laker by name and recently noted that #0 will be a good upcoming player for our team. Her sense of humor, gift of gab and kindness will be forever remembered by everyone she knew. Early years were spent active in the family's church at Del Amo Baptist and later at Narbonne Baptist and Torrance First Baptist. Betty loved God, her family, swing dancing and people. Her smile would light up a room. She is survived by her 4 children: Barry Hagar & Linda, Barbara Hagar-Jolls & Scott, Cheryl Hagar-Mallari & Percy, Dale Hagar & Dixie, brother Sam Wilson, 7 grand-children: Amie (Mark), Natalie (Rob), Andre (Dawn), Danny (Alyssa), Lauren Rae, Amanda and Coleman, 9 great-grandchildren: Tyler, Bryson, Casaundra, Jacob, Riley, Tatum, Dylan, Carlie Jean & Gavin.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 1pm at Green Hills Memorial Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes followed by interment.
