Betty-Lou Dickhart passed away peacefully at age 85 following a chronic illness. She was born in Detroit, MI, and spent her early childhood in the area of Victoria, Canada. Betty graduated from Tamalpais High School, Mill Valley, CA in 1949, at which time she was awarded the Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award. She continued her studies at College of Marin, Kentfield, CA, and the University of California, Los Angeles, with a major focus on biological sciences. Following graduation, Betty worked as a laboratory technician at Los Angeles County Hospital.She was subsequently employed for over 30 years with the Department of Pathology, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. There, she served as Laboratory Administrator and received a number of citations for her outstanding contributions.
While at UCLA, Betty met her future husband, Alfred Henry Dickhart. They married in 1955 and were together almost 50 years until Al's death in 2004. The Dickharts made their home in Rancho Palos Verdes for a number of years before moving to Rancho Mirage. Betty and Al enjoyed flying their small plane around the country with Al serving as pilot and Betty as expert navigator. They also deeply loved their dachshunds.
Over the past two years, Betty resided at Segovia Retirement Community, Palm Desert, CA.
Graveside services were held May 19, 2016 in Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, where she was buried next to her husband.
