Betty Cortez

Betty Cortez-Silva a long time resident of Hawthorne CA., died Wednesday April 10, 2019 at Torrance Memorial Hospital.

Betty Jane Justis was born August 22, 1938 in Clinton, Missouri to Burrell and Jane (Grindstaff) Justis The Justis family moved to Southern California in 1953. Betty graduated from Hawthorne High School in 1956. She received her Associates degree in Accounting from El Camino Community College in 1984.

Betty started working at Hawthorne Assembly of God church & school in 1969 doing bookkeeping and later payroll. In 1987 she started work at South Bay Solariums, Inc. as an Accountant until 1996 when she got a job at The Bohle Company as a Controller/Accountant until she retired at the young age of 70.

Betty is survived by her daughters Brenda Cortez of Redondo Beach, Linda Cortez of Covina, son Stephen Cortez, brother Jerry (Ruth) Justis, brother Robert (Sandy) Justis, niece Margaret Copeland and family, nephews Timothy Justis and family, Andrew Justis and family, Kendall Justis and family, Kevin Justis and family, Darren Justis and family, Dane Justis and family and 2nd husband Timothy Silva.

Betty is preceded in death by her 1st husband Truman F. Cortez, nephew Matthew Justis and parents Burrell and Jane Justis.
