Bernice Kashiwai

Passed away on March 8, 2024 at the age of 88 surrounded by her children.

Known affectionately throughout the Hawaiian Islands as “Auntie Bernie”, she loved caring for her orchids, creating jewelry, sewing, and cooking ono grinds. As an educator, her students called her “Momma K” for her nurturing ways. She welcomed everyone she met into her o’hana with love and aloha.

She is survived by her loving children, Kent (Nicole) Kashiwai and Julie Kashiwai; adoring granddaughters, Casey and Alexa Kashiwai; devoted brothers, Abe (Ani) Tanaka of Oahu and Gilbert (Fumi) Tanaka of Kauai.

Services will be held at Faith United Methodist Church, 2115 W. 182nd Street, Torrance, CA, on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024 at 11am. Casual aloha attire. In lieu of gifts and flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association [link: https://act.alz.org/donate ].
