Barry Lee Sutlovich

November 17, 1943 — December 26, 2016

Barry was born and raised in San Pedro, middle son of Daniel and Vilma Sutlovich. Barry attended San Pedro High School. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He returned home and went to work for McDonnell Douglas and shortly after that followed in his father and older brother Anthony's footsteps and became a longshoreman with ILWU Local13. He retired from the waterfront after 31 years due to illness. But up until his death he was a very proud union member and one of his proudest moments was when he and his brother Anthony worked together as Foremen (Local 94) for A.P.L. Barry was an accomplished outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish, whether it was big game with his hunting cronies or opening day of dove season with his son Nick and dog Max. He loved fishing in the Sierra's and Big Bear Lake. He loved when Dan and Sharon visited from back east and he could take them sightseeing and spend time at the range. In recent years Barry belonged to Peck Park Seniors and never missed the Monday meetings. He could be found daily having his coffee and cookies at the McDonald's on Western Ave. or out with his daughter Kim running errands around town and having lunch at Fantastic Cafe. He was always up for a bus ride to the casinos with his sister-in-law Natalie and caregiver and dear friend of 13 years, Ati. His most treasured possession was his family. His grandchildren meant everything to him and he always looked forward to birthdays and holidays so he could spoil them. Barry was preceded in death by his father Daniel and older brother Anthony. He leaves behind his mother Vilma, brother Dennis (Nancy), sister-in-law Natalie, daughter Kimberly (Steve) Mosich, son Nick, beloved grandchildren Steven, Evan, Gianna, Nick, Kris, DJ, adored "Uncle Bear" to Andrea, Stefanie, Matt, Michelle and families, numerous cousins and their families, dedicated caregiver Ati Urbano and family, Godson Tony Danelo and best friends and New Jersey family Dan and Sharon Magrino. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 4th 3pm - 8pm at Green Hills Mortuary and a funeral service will be held at Green Hills Memorial Chapel at 11:30am on Thursday, January 5, 2017.
