She was blessed by close, caring and very special friends for whom she cherished. She grew up in Southern California, married Robert Proffitt while on active Naval duty in Juneau Alaska in 1945 then returned to Hawthorne California where they settled down, started a family and successful business together. Barbara worked for Northrop Corporation early on in her career then assisted her husband with their business. After her husband's passing she moved to Orange County where she worked for the Irvine Company. After a few years there, she went to work for General William Lyon of William Lyon Homes. She always said it was the most rewarding job she ever had due in part to the wonderful people she worked with. Her strength, grace, style, loyalty, and kindness will be missed by all.
