Barbara Mae Pohlmann, a long time resident of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA was called home to God on the evening of March 3, 2012, after a brief illness of Pancreatic cancer. She was seventy three years old, born on May 5, 1938 in Hollywood to Herbert and Mildred Wagner. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics at UCLA in 1960 and worked as a Home economist for the Gas Company and received her teaching credential from Los Angeles State College in 1961. She taught high school classes in cooking, health, early childhood education and sexuality, and during the early years of the AIDS epidemic Barbara, her daughters, and some of her pupils acted in a documentary filmed by Disney Studios about the dangers of the disease. She taught high school at Dorsey high school in the inner city for the next forty five years. Several of her students returned to Dorsey after graduating college to say hello and thank her for being their inspiration in becoming Doctors, Lawyers, and other professional people. She was an ardent sports fan of UCLA football and basketball, never giving up on her team no matter how bleak their future. She was married for almost fifty two years to Bill Pohlmann. She is survived by her husband and daughters, Kristin Ott and Lara Pohlmann. Also left to mourn her are son-in-law Craig Ott and her beloved grandson Kyler Ott. Barbara's hobby was breeding and showing Hungarian Sheep dogs still used today in the Steps of Central Asia for herding. The name of the breed is Puli (plural is Pulik). From 1967 to 1990 she bred many litters of pups whose genes and pedigrees are still a dominant part of the breed's national gene pool.
