Anthony N. Tonsich

October 1, 1929 — June 19, 2014

Anthony N. Tonsich peacefully passed away on June 19, 2014, surrounded by the love of his family and caregivers. Anthony was the son of Nikola and Dorinka Tonsich of Selca, Croatia, who emigrated to the United States in the 1920s. Born in San Pedro, Anthony was known for his outgoing personality, hard-charging attitude, generosity, toughness, and love for his children and grandchildren. A graduate of San Pedro High School (W48), Anthony was the Marine League Champ in the 880 (1/2 mile) narrowly missing the City Title in the final race held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Anthony's toughness was borne from years fishing on the American Boy in the 1940s and 50s with his father and Uncles Pete and Joe. Anthony's fishing experiences instilled in him an unmatched work ethic that he passed on to his family. He was proud that he never took a sick day in his life. Anthony's career included an enlistment in the U.S. Army where he was a drill instructor and honorably discharged in 1952, as well as over 45 years in the car business where he enjoyed working with his second love, cars. Anthony was an avid sailor and enjoyed countless hours on his sailboat, Lady Bug II. Anthony's life was well-lived with numerous trips throughout Europe and his beloved Croatia, where he received his dual citizenship. He is survived by his sons Anthony, Nicholas (Angela Kocsis), daughter Suzanne (Aaron Dyer), and eight grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on June 25, 2014, 11:00 a.m., at Green Hills Chapel, 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275.
