Anthony "Tony" Ploszaj, 97, died on May 1, 2025.
Tony was born in Dmytrow, Poland on October 28, 1927. At the age of 12 he was taken along with his mother and other Polish people to a concentration camp in Siberia. After 2 years he was able to enroll in a Polish Junior-Military School in Palestine. He soon found himself at the Royal Air Force School in Halton Elsbury Buckingshire, England where he earned his Technician's degree. After 5 years in England, Tony went to Argentina to join his parents who had resettled there. In 1958 Tony married Sofia Samborski at the Cathedral of Cordoba in Cordoba , Argentina. In 1962, Tony, Sofia and their young son, Fred, immigrated to the United States and made their home in San Pedro, California. Tony worked at Space Equipment Corporation, Flying Tigers, and retired from Federal Express in 1999. He loved swimming, tennis, camping, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. Tony is survived by his wife, Sofia, his 3 children, Fred (Matzallane), Edward, and Diane (Claude), and his 3 grandchildren, Leonard, Isabella, and Victoria. Tony was our Grandpa, our Tata, our Tosiek. He will always be remembered by us for his love, hard work, perseverance, and generosity.
A memorial service will be held at Green Hills Chapel on May 19, 2025 from 11:30 am to 12:30 am followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park.
