Anne Marie Chenhalls

May 26, 1929 — August 5, 2012

Anne Marie Chenhalls closed her eyes on this earth and opened them in heaven on August 5, 2012.

She was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 26, 1929 to Peter McLeod and Beatrice Elliston McLeod. Anne Marie graduated from high school in 1947 and proceeded to enter a long career in nursing. The nursing programs at that time required her to live in residence at the teaching hospital. It was there that she met friends that would remain for a lifetime.
In 1952, she decided to take a planned trip to Europe, bicycling in England, France, Spain and Portugal. While in France, she "coincidentally" met Helen Keller. Also in Paris, a mischievous friend convinced her to climb over a fence and they "coincidentally" came across the future queen of England planting a tree.

After returning to Michigan, while working at a hospital, she met and married Horacio Chenhalls, who had taken a break from pursuing his medical studies. They moved to Mexico City where she worked as a private duty nurse, and Horacio completed his medical studies. After less than 3 years of marriage, Horacio unexpectedly died, leaving Anne Marie to raise two young children, Mark and Anne Marie. She returned to school and completed her master's degree, taught nursing, and then became a school nurse. Anne Marie had a wonderful ability to select incredibly beautiful places to live, including multiple beach homes and the mountains.

Her greatest joy was in becoming a follower of Jesus Christ. She then became involved with a missionary organization and performed the medical screenings for those traveling overseas. One of her fondest memories was teaching community health in a remote village in Kenya, Africa where (her words) "roadblocks were a common hazard and one hoped that the rebel's machine guns were pointed the other way". After retiring, she volunteered in Mexican orphanages and became president of a clown club.

She is survived by her older sister Audrey and younger brother Bruce, her son Mark and his wife Cassandra, her daughter Anne Marie and her husband Tom, four grandchildren and their spouses, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her body will be laid to rest in Palos Verdes, California. Yet instead of a lifeless end, she will have an endless life.
